Biography
Matthew James Moy was a Chinese-American actor who appeared in numerous TV shows, most notably as Han Lee, the owner of the Williamsburg Diner in the sitcom "2 Broke Girls" (CBS 2011- ). Moy was born on February 3, 1984 in San Francisco, California as the younger of two children. His father was a high school teacher, but he followed more closely the footsteps of his mother, who was a speech and language therapist. He majored in Japanese with a minor in linguistics at the University of California in Davis. He sought to turn his experience studying voice-over into a fruitful career. He booked an agent and landed a few small jobs before finally appearing in front of the camera. His first credited role was for an episode on the Comedy Central sketch comedy series "Mind of Mencia" (2005-08). Afterwards one of his first recurring roles on a TV show was the popular sitcom "Scrubs" (NBC 2001-08, ABC 2009-2010). Meanwhile, Moy appeared on episodes of "Big Time Rush" (Nickelodeon 2009-2013), "iCarly" (Nickelodeon 2007-2010), and "The Middle" (ABC 2009-). In 2011, Moy was cast as the Korean diner owner Han on the CBS series "2 Broke Girls." Aware that his role drew criticism as an Asian stereotype, Moy insisted that the show was concerned only about the jokes and had no racist agenda. While he worked on "2 Broke Girls," Moy also worked on other series, which included providing voice work for "Kung Fu Panda: Legend of Awesomeness" (Nickelodeon 2011- ), the TV adaptation of the popular Dreamworks animated film.
