Biography
Mark Schlichter is a versatile filmmaker who has forayed into numerous aspects of the film and television business. The core of his work, however, has been directing, beginning with his 1995 undergraduate thesis film "Ex," a crime drama about the drug and gang scene on the streets of Berlin, for which he also wrote the screenplay. The project earned Schlichter the Young German Cinema Award at the Munich Film Festival. Following "Ex," Schlichter went on to direct eight made-for-TV movies, as well as several episodes of various German television series, including all four episodes of the talk-show "Olaf TV--Von Schubert zu Mensch." Schlichter made his big-screen directorial debut in 2002 with the collaborative ensemble film "99 Euro Films," and followed that venture with his 2004 feature "Cowgirl," a romantic comedy that he also wrote. But Schlichter is not just a director and screenwriter--he has proven his skills in front of the camera as well. As an actor, Schlichter played the lead role in 1995's "Stille Nacht," a drama about a woman trying to decide between two men. He also played a role in the dark 1996 television movie "Cuba Libre," a road-trip drama about two homeless former lovers.
