Biography
A theater-trained actor, James Hyndman was able to bring many shades, light and dark alike, to his characters. Born April 23, 1962 in Bonn, Germany, James Hyndman was the son of a Canadian diplomat and earned valuable dramatic training at the Acteur-Créateur de Paris in France before returning to Canada. Hyndman earned a Best Supporting Actor Genie nomination for his turn in the based-on-facts drama "Rowing Through" (1996) as a younger teammate of an American rower who rallies after the 1980 Moscow Olympics boycott to make the 1984 team. Able to bring out the humanity in prickly, complicated characters, Hyndman charmed audiences with his well-received turns on the dramas "2 frères" ("2 Brothers") (TVA, 1999-2001), "Diva" (TVA, 1997-2000) and "Rumeurs" ("Rumors") (Radio-Canada, 2002-08) as well as on the tongue-in-cheek soap opera spoof "Le coeur a ses raisons" ("The Heart Has its Reasons") (VAT, 2005-07) in a fun role as unusual twin brothers. Although he appeared in such films as "Le marais" ("The Marsh") (2002), "Black Eyed Dog" (2006) and "L'Empire Bo$$é" (2012), Hyndman worked most frequently on TV, booking a recurring role on "Les hauts et les bas de Sophie Paquin" ("The Ups and Downs of Sophie Paquin") (Radio-Canada, 2006-09) and a regular role as the brilliant but cold surgeon Pierre Meilleur on "Trauma" (Radio-Canada, 2010- ). He also found much success redubbing American movies for French Canadian audiences, voicing Samuel L. Jackson's Mace Windu "Star Wars" character among many others.
