Biography
With more than 175 screen credits to his name, Hans Peter Hallwachs is the epitome of the working German actor. Although widespread fame has eluded him, Hallwachs has appeared on many of his country's most renowned television shows over the decades, including the popular crime programs "Derrick," "Siska," and "Tatort," with the actor often returning to the same series as different characters. One of his biggest roles came early on in his career, when Hallwachs was featured as a leading character in Volker Schlöndorff's tense 1967 drama "Degree of Murder," which also starred Anita Pallenberg. Although this promising start didn't yield international success for Hallwachs, it enabled him to establish a reputation as a reliable go-to character actor for television directors, resulting in his turns in dozens of made-for-TV movies during the 1970s, '80s and '90s. In 2001, Hallwachs appeared in supporting roles in the German action feature "Hostile Takeover," starring Thomas Kretschmann, and the epic World War II tale "As Far as My Feet Will Carry Me." Rather than slowing down with advancing age, Hallwachs embraced his chances to play elderly characters, with a featured part in the acclaimed war drama "Rosenstrasse" and a recurring role on the long-running crime series "Im Namen des Gesetzes" among other latter-day performances.
