Biography
Musician turned director-editor Alan Cohn has spent much of his career working in television comedy, beginning with his time an editor on HBO's edgy 1991 sketch series, "Hardcore TV." Cohn has frequently worked for MTV, first as a director and editor on the edgy network's long-running "true story of seven strangers," "The Real World." Working with the influential Bunim-Murray Productions for the reality television show's New York-based first season, Cohn borrowed the canted angles and jarring editing from music videos of the same era and help to shape the show's frenetic visual style. His comedic sensibilities have led to work with Canadian sketch comedian Scott Thompson and to a gig as a second-unit director shooting additional segments for the testosterone-fueled comedy series "The Man Show," starring Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla, from 2000 to 2003. Cohn's biggest credit came in 1998, when he directed the dark collegiate comedy "Dead Man on Campus," starring Tom Everett Scott and Mark-Paul Gosselaar. Cohn has periodically called on his musical talents throughout the years, from penning the instrumental portions of the theme to WB sitcom "The Wayans Brothers" to co-writing the Kiss My Arse song "Sperm" from "Dead Man on Campus"--a project he also directed with influential 1990s production duo the Dust Brothers.
