'Jurassic World': Your Ultimate Guide to the Dinosaurs Terrorizing Chris Pratt
Fourteen years after 'Jurassic Park III' last explored the eternal conflict between man and dinosaur, the franchise finally returns to theaters -- with a new wave of dinos primed to make tourists run and scream. To celebrate this long-awaited sequel, check out this guide to the new species of dinosaur appearing in 'JW.'
Apatosaurus
Once known as the brontosaurus, the apatosaurus is one of the largest dinosaurs and a mainstay at Jurassic Park. Their docile nature and herbivore diet ensure that they're mostly harmless, although you certainly wouldn't want to get stepped on by one of these massive and deceptively quick creatures.
Dimorphodon
The dimorphodon is a variety of flying dinosaur that makes its debut in the revamped Jurassic World park. They mainly subsist on a diet of fish and insects, but based on the trailer they pose a threat to the park's visitors when not properly contained.
Gallimimus
The name gallimimus translates to “chicken mimic,” and that's a pretty good description of these relatively small and agile dinosaurs. They're commonly found free-roaming in the valleys of Isla Nublar.
Indominus Rex
The indominus rex (or “untameable king”) is the centerpiece of the new film. This fearsome beast was spliced together from numerous DNA samples, resulting in something bigger, tougher and meaner than the T. rex.
Mosasaurus
Previous ‘Jurassic Park’ movies never paid much attention to the park's aquatic creatures. But the mosasaurus is another centerpiece of the new park. This large reptile dominated the oceans, thanks to its massive size and deadly teeth. Even great white sharks are a mere snack for this beast.
Triceratops
In the original 'Jurassic Park,' an ailing triceratops was the first sign that not all was well in this expensive dinosaur preserve. Presumably Jurassic World's scientists have ironed out the kinks, and this durable plant eater will find Isla Nublar's ecosystem more agreeable this time.
Tyrannosaurus Rex
In the first movie, the T. rex was the biggest and baddest dino on the whole island – able to devour "blood-sucking" lawyers in a single bite. He's no longer king of Isla Nublar, with the advent of the indominus rex. But still, don't mess with him.
Velociraptor
The velociraptors are far from the biggest dinosaurs around, but their bloodthirsty nature and fiendish intelligence make them arguably the most dangerous species on the island. However, the trailers have shown Chris Pratt's character training the raptors to follow orders. They could wind up becoming the most valuable weapon the humans have when the park goes haywire.
