It is a bit puzzling, what with superhero movies being all the rage. Last year, Wonder Woman attempted to return the small screen in a pilot directed by David E. Kelley. NBC rejected that pilot which starred Adrianne Palicki in the title role. Many thought plans to revive the super-heroine would be put on hold, at least until DC Comics and Warner Bros. got around to making their Justice League movie.

Now it appears, DC Comics, WB and the CW have hired Allan Heinberg (Grey's Anatomy) to write a script for a new TV show. Currently titled Amazon, the show would follow the structure of Smallville by focusing on the character in her early years, long before she wore power bracelets or red, white and blue tights.

According to Vulture, no pilot has been ordered just yet as the project is in the earliest stages of development, but it certainly speaks to the resiliency of the character.

Joss Whedon famously attempted to bring the character to the big screen, but never quite made it past the script-writing stage. Recently, Drive director Nicholas Winding Refn talked about taking a crack at it, but nothing has since materialized.

Wonder Woman will make it back to theaters eventually. Green Lantern co-writer Michael Goldenberg was hired earlier this summer to try and bring the character to the big screen as some part of the DC Cinema universe that is gradually moving toward a Justice League feature and perhaps a rebooted Batman.

If all goes well, perhaps this origins-esque seriescan serve as the launching pad for Wonder Woman to propel her back into theaters, either in a standalone film or as a member of the Justice League.

Which, of course, brings us to the question of who you think would be the ideal actress to play a young Wonder Woman?
