Every film has a hero — it’s one of the reasons why we love the movies so much. Looming larger than life, movie heroes give us someone to root for, to look up to, to try and emulate.

Dads are the real life heroes. They’re larger than life, yet down to earth; always rooting for us, keeping us safe and sound, opening pickle jars with a single twist. And they do it all without a secret lair, rocket-powered boots, or throngs of cheering fans.

So this Father’s Day, why not give Dad a card that’s unique to his particular kind of heroism? Is he sly and stylish? Always up on the latest tech? Big and cuddly? Each of these three cards is sure to show Dad how much you appreciate him and all his heroic ways!

BOND, DAD BOND.

If the dad in your life is always dressed to the nines, knows how to diffuse a ticking bomb (or stinky diaper), and loves his martinis shaken, not stirred, this JAMES BOND card is just what Dr. No ordered.

Supplies: black card stock, white paper, black foam paper, black button, craft beads/gems or silver brads (paper fasteners)

Directions:

1.     Download and print James Bond card template or cut a piece of black card stock to 10.5” x 7”

2.     Score and fold the card as shown on the template and in the photo below.

3.     Glue a piece of white paper (slightly smaller than 5” x 7”) into the middle panel for the shirt.

4.     Create bowtie using black foam paper. Trim out 1 piece from the template for the entire bowtie shape. Trim out a second piece of just the middle square (the knot). Glue smaller piece on top of full bowtie to give the knot dimension.

5.     Use craft gems or silver brads for shirt buttons. Glue black button onto outer flap of jacket.

6.     Create jacket pocket and pocket square using black card stock and white paper, using the template as a guide.

Handy tip: Put a small dot of glue under each lapel and secure the entire card closed while glue dries, to ensure the card will stay closed. You can also add a small Velcro tab to keep the “jacket” closed.

I AM IRON DAD

Is the dad on your list always plugged in — whether to the latest tech gadget or the pulse of pop culture? Does he have a tough exterior that protects a heart of gold underneath? Then why not make him a super-powered IRON MAN Father’s Day card!

Supplies: red card stock, metallic gold (or yellow) paper, white paper

Directions:

1.     Download and print Iron Man card template. Tape onto red card stock and, and cut just enough to leave a border around the outer shape of the card. Fold in half along dotted line, then cut out the closed card to ensure sides match perfectly.

2.     Cut card template along dotted fold line, tape mask template to gold paper and cut out mask highlights. See Handy tip for cutting out eyeholes.

3.     Print a second template at 90%, tape to white paper, trim and fold.

4.     Put a thin line of glue along inside fold of card (just 2/3 the length of the card — not all the way to edges). Glue in white paper, close card and allow to dry.

Handy tip:

Cut out eyeholes from gold mask highlights, glue to front of card, then trim out eyeholes from red paper.

LAUGH IT UP, FUZZBALL

If your dad, granddad or husband is the strong, silent type, always has your back, and goes through razors quicker than you can say “I’d just as soon kiss a Wookiee,” then he definitely needs this furry CHEWBACCA card.

Supplies: brown (or black) card stock, black construction paper, silver metallic foam paper, brown craft fur

Directions:

1.     Trim out card on brown card stock — 9.5” x 6.75”, score and fold in half to 4.75” x 6.75”.

2.     Glue front of folded card to back of craft fur, cut fur carefully around edge of card. Apply pressure with a heavy book to ensure the glue bonds well.

3.     Download and print Chewbacca template. Use measurements shown to create the pieces of Chewie’s bandolier. The 10” x .75” bandolier strap is on black construction paper.

4.     Cut larger rectangles out of metallic foam. If you don’t have metallic foam, trim them out of black or white foam paper, then cover/wrap in aluminum foil or metallic paper.

5.     Trim smaller rectangles out of the black construction paper, and glue them along the centers of the larger rectangles. Allow to dry, then glue finished “cartridges” to bandolier strap allowing .5” between each. Allow to dry.

6.     Lay finished bandolier diagonally on top of card, fold edges over and glue to inside of card.

7.     Put a thin line of glue along inside fold of card (just 2/3 the length of the card — not all the way to edges). Glue in white paper, close card and allow to dry.

Handy tip: Craft fur can be messy! Be sure your scissors are nice and sharp to ensure a clean cut — and less shedding.

*All cards are designed to fit inside a standard A7 envelope (holds a 5” x 7” card)
