Where were you Friday at midnight? Yes, right before midnight you were probably reading this awesome blog – we already know that much – but what about at midnight? Were you one of the thousands of fans who waited in line to buy the much-hyped Twilight DVD? Heck, you must have been – because according to reports, Twilight made a whopping $3 million in DVD sales in its first day alone, giving it the fifth highest total of all time in opening day DVD sales. That’s pretty hot, especially for a big-screen adaptation that a lot of fans were real iffy on.
Then again, maybe the overall consensus wasn’t as split down the middle as I originally thought it was, since Twilight was just announced the winner of Fandango’s First Annual Fan Choice Award – beating out powerhouse favorites like The Dark Knight, WALL-E and Iron Man during a one-year period between February 2008 and February 2009. (What, no love for Paul Blart: Mall Cop?) Go figure. Twilight won with a pretty solid 78% of the vote, and the award will be presented to Summit Entertainment (the studio behind the Twilight films) at this year’s ShoWest conference.
Did you wait a long time to buy your Twilight DVD? And do you think it deserved to beat The Dark Knight for the Fan Choice award? Finally, what about New Moon – do you think it has a chance to do better than Twilight?
