Indy, schmindy. Apparently, all of America--or at least those with a credit card, a Fandango account and most probably an extra X chromosome--will be lining up to see the ladies of Sex and the City over the next 48 hours. Most box office predictions I've seen have the movie pulling in somewhere between $35 million or a little more. But if our sales are any indication, I'd say that's lowballing it. Some current stats: Fandango's averaging seven SATC tickets per second. It's well over 90% of sales (Indy 4 in its second week is only 5% of today's ticks). More than 1000 showtimes have sold out already, and you can bet your SATC DVD boxed set that a lot more will be sold out by the end of the weekend. What does it all mean? I'm sure the pundits will all weigh in Monday morning. But really, though, when it's all said and done, two things are clear: more filmmakers will be (or at least should be) taking note of their female demographic when weighing those next projects...and secondly, if you're an SATC fan with a lot of SATC-fan friends, or girlfriends willing to make the leap...then we know what event you've had circled on your social calendars.
