Guillermo del Toro Joins The Hobbit…Cast?

Yup, you heard that right. The Hobbit director Guillermo del Toro revealed on the One Ring message boards that he will be playing one of the creatures in the movie. He says, "I had a hand on the design of the creature and I will personally sculpt the appliances that will be applied on my face and hands. I used to sculpt the creatures for NECROPIA (my FX company) and I miss it a bit. I will have a line or two and die quickly."

In another interview with Total Film, del Toro described the film's monsters as being "absolutely gorgeous" and "majestic". Recently Viggo Mortensen was asked whether he'd be interested in returning to the franchise, and while he'd love a chance to do that, he admitted that there's no place for Aragorn in any Hobbit adaptation – and in order for that character to appear in another LotR film, it would have to be one that acted as a bridge between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring.

New 'Avatar' TV Spots

Looks like 20th Century Fox is now rolling out the Avatar cavalry as a bunch of new TV spots have arrived online, as well as sandwiched between some of your favorite television shows. The latest TV spot runs at about a minute and a half, and it looks to be the first to feature a "voiceover guy" – who calls Avatar "the greatest adventure ever told" at one point.

Unlike the extended three-minute trailer that aired during the World Series, this TV spot is definitely catered more toward the younger audience with its exciting Disney-esque adventure music and the sort of sparkly voiceover you'd expect from one of those Disney home video commercials for, like, Snow White on Blu-ray or whatever. Still, we get some never-before-scenes here, so it's totally worth the watch. Check out the TV spot below…

Mel Gibson was Almost James Bond

Could you imagine Mel Gibson playing James Bond? Well it almost happened during the height of Gibson's career, according to a new book by Tom Mankiewicz, who wrote the scripts for The Man with the Golden Gun and Live and Let Die. The story goes that Gibson wanted the role, but famed Bond producer Albert "Cubby" Broccoli was against it. Why was he against it? After all, in his earlier years, Gibson was quite suave and all action star-esque. The answer may surprise you.

Says Mankiewicz, "At one point Mel Gibson wanted to play Bond. And Cubby was against it. Cubby first of all had a thing about tall people. Bond had to be tall. And so Mel Gibson was too short. But he was a big star. Somebody at United Artists said to me, 'Call him and tell him Mel Gibson would be great.' And Cubby said, 'I don't want to make a Mel Gibson movie, I want to make a James Bond movie.'"
