As vividly brought to life in Greta, now playing in theaters everywhere, a kind gesture by a young woman can lead to an unexpected campaign of personal terror, carried out by an apparently harmless older woman. We just never know what might happen to endanger lives on the big screen.

Still, most of us love the surprises, the clever twists, and the shocking turns. Here are three upcoming thrillers that are signaling their intention to be very sneaky in how they play out.

Us

Coming from the writer and director of Get Out, we fully expect Jordan Peele's new thriller to be a horrifying experience. As he has already shown, however, Peele is very clever about taking his stories to places that cannot be easily predicted. Thus, we have high hopes that Us will include scary twists that are not even hinted at in the trailers so far. Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke and Elisabeth Moss star.

Release date: March 22.

The Intruder

Michael Ealy and Meagan Good buy a lovely new home in Napa Valley, never suspecting that former owner Dennis Quaid has a deeply-felt attachment to the place. As they learn more about the lonely man, the surprises start coming at an unsettling pace. Several twists are strongly suggested in the trailer, though we suspect that more surprises are in store in the thriller.

Release date: May 3.

Ma

She's harmless! Or so think a group of teens when they first meet a woman (Octavia Spencer) who invites them to party at her house. Her possibly malicious intentions are soon glimpsed in the trailer, though we imagine that the filmmakers have not yet spilled all their twisty secrets. No doubt, though, we'll all be talking about it when the horror/thriller hits theaters.
