Even if you didn't watch the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night, you most likely read, watched or heard about that crazy stunt involving Sacha Baron Cohen flying into the theater as his alter-ego Bruno with a giant set of angel wings, only to have his flying contraption malfunction and send him ass first into rapper Eminem's face. It was a pretty hilarious scene to watch unfold, and a lot of folks (including us) later questioned whether or not this stunt was staged, or if Baron Cohen really did surprise Eminem with a mouth full of, um, naked flesh.
Well, we can all put this to rest, as it has been revealed that the stunt was exactly that: a staged stunt where both parties (including Eminem) were fully aware of exactly how far it was going to go. Scott Aukerman, a writer for the movie awards, admitted it was all pretend over on his blog, but then mysteriously removed the post in question. Prior to its removal, though, there was this quote (via the LA Times): "Yes, the Bruno/Eminem incident was staged. That's all anyone wants to talk about, so let's get it out of the way. They rehearsed it at dress and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show then. Okay, you can stop reading this blog now!"
It's funny, too, because I have a lot more respect now for Eminem knowing this was all a big practical joke. For someone who constantly makes fun of other celebrities by mocking them in the lyrics for his songs to very publicly embarrass himself by sticking the naked rear end of Sacha Baron Cohen in his face on live television is something that no one ever expected from the tough-as-nails rapper. So kudos to you, sir Eminem, for a joke well done. You can catch Sacha Baron Cohen as Bruno in Bruno on July 10.
Did you think the whole incident was real, or did you know it was a prank from the moment it happened?
