A stand-alone Han Solo movie has been buzzed about pretty much since the first day the world learned Disney was going to be making more Star Wars movies. But every time Disney made an official announcement, it was nowhere to be seen.
Until today.
Disney and the official Star Wars site have confirmed that The Lego Movie directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord have landed the highly coveted job of the solo Han Solo movie.
According to StarWars.com, the story "focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley."
It's still far, far too early to talk about who would actually play the roguish smuggler, so details are going to be slim for a while, but THR is able to confirm a few key things:
- This is a different movie from the announced spin-off that lost Josh Trank as a director.
- It will be written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan.
- It will come out May 25, 2018.
If you happen to be a huge Lord and Miller fan, then this should come as a dash of good and bad news. This is obviously a huge, huge project for them, which means it may actually bump them off of some previously attached things that were in development, like a Flash feature for DC Comics and a 21 Jump Street/Men in Black crossover. It may not in the long run, but we'll see. Either way, they seem to be happy. Here's how Chris Miller acknowledged the news on Twitter:

In other Star Wars news, Birth Movies Death has offered up the somewhat obvious news that Darth Vader will make an appearance of some kind in Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One. That really shouldn't be much of a grand surprise considering the movie is about the team of rebels who stole the plans for the Death Star, so clearly Vader is going to be involved in some capacity, but there you have it.
