Karl Urban is set to star in a new adaptation of the British sci-fi comic series, “Judge Dredd,” according to FilmoFilia. Urban, who can be seen taking on Bruce Willis and crew in the upcoming adaptation of the DC Comics graphic novel, “Red,” will be the second Dredd following Sylvester Stallone’s turn in the 1995.

The series is centered on the character Judge Joe Dredd created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra from the sci-fi fiction anthology "2000 AD". The story centers on Dredd, an American law enforcement officer in a violent city of the future where uniformed Judges combine the powers of police, judge, jury and executioner. Dredd and his fellow Judges are empowered to arrest, sentence and even execute criminals on the spot.

“The main thing about Judge Dredd is that it’s a fantastic comic that was completely messed up 20 years ago,” producer Andrew Macdonald said. “Our idea is to make a very hard, R-rated, gritty, realistic movie of Dredd in Megacity, so we’ve got to get the tone right. He’s not going to take off his helmet. His bike is going to feel real.”

So what do you think? Are you excited to see Urban take out some Mega-City One criminals or are you ready to execute this latest re-boot?
