Spanish actor Javier Bardem is set to add another villainous role to his filmography, this time playing the lead bad guy in Despicable Me 2.

Plot details are still under wraps as the movie doesn’t hit theaters until July 2013, but ever since his Oscar-winning turn as the emotionless, compassionless killing machine Anton Chigurh in the Coen Bros. No Country for Old Men, Bardem has been rather selective with the roles he takes on.

In addition to his stellar turn in last year’s Biutiful, which earned him his third Oscar acting nomination, Bardem has starred in Love in the Time of Cholera, Woody Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona and the Julia Roberts movie Eat, Pray, Love.

It seems in conjunction with his upcoming villainous role in James Bond 23, Bardem is looking to jump onto the casting lists of upcoming big budget productions. He’s also currently linked to an untitled Terrance Malik project that co-stars Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz and 2011 "It" girl Jessica Chastain.

A critic and commercial hit, the success of the original Despicable Me was a bit of a surprise for Universal. The story about an evil genius named Gru (Steve Carell) and his group of Looney Tunes-esque minions ended up pulling in over $500 million worldwide.

With the addition of Bardem to the cast, are you excited for a second Despicable Me?
