Warner Bros. and Robert Downey Jr. have teamed up to bring the long-running TV movie franchise adapted from Erle Stanley Gardner’s books to the big screen. Downey will produce along with his wife Susan and is looking to star as the title defense lawyer, Perry Mason.

Similar to the original series of books (of which there are 82), the feature film will take place in the gritty early 1930's Los Angeles and feature fan favorites including Mason’s secretary Della Street, P.I. Paul Drake and Mason’s longtime courtroom nemesis, Hamilton Burger.

An original story will be created by Downey and co-producer David Gambino, who are currently seeking a writer to put their ideas down on paper.

Raymond Burr played Mason in the series of TV movies which spanned 25 productions over eight years as well as on the TV series which spanned nine seasons.
