As Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games franchise, Josh Hutcherson found great success and enjoyed a huge upswing in popularity. From a young man with a crush on Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), he grew into a very capable warrior who must then endure an extended period of torture before returning to the side of the rebels in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (above).
With the conclusion of the series, will Hutcherson seek another big studio franchise in which to star? Will he head toward independent films? Or try and mix and match the two?
The four Hunger Games movies have absorbed most of his time over the past few years, but with news on his latest casting, a pattern has emerged. Hutcherson has already completed work on two indie movies with actor and director James Franco -- In Dubious Battle and The Long Home -- and is now in talks for a third, The Disaster Artist, according to Variety.

While the first two are dramas based on novels by John Steinbeck and William Gay, respectively, The Disaster Artist is a comedy about The Room, which has become a midnight favorite and known as one of the worst movies ever made. (It's an opinion that is not shared by filmmaker Tommy Wiseau, by the way.) James Franco will star as Wiseau, his brother Dave Franco will portray actor Greg Sestero and Hutcherson will play another actor, Philip Haldiman.

Of course, Hutcherson's burst of activity in the indie film scene doesn't mean he's taking himself off the marketplace for big-budget blockbusters. He was touted at one point to return for Journey 3 with Dwayne Johnson, for example, though that's still up in the air. His willingness to tackle a variety of projects speaks well of his career objectives, and though it may be hard to believe, he's still just 23 years old! We look forward to following him for years to come.
