The holidays are a time for vacation, treats and decorating. This winter, Alvin, Simon and Theodore hit the road in Alvin and the Chipmunks: Road Chip! Add Alvin to your tree trimming by making cookie ornaments that look like his iconic sweater. Red cookie dough, baked and emblazoned with his signature A. Hang them from the tree or share them with your chipmunk brothers!

Alvin’s Sweater Cookie Ornaments

(makes 18)

You’ll need:

Sweater cookie cutter

Ribbon

Ingredients:

3 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

pinch of salt

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

red food gel dye

yellow icing

Directions:

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar.

Add the egg and vanilla to the butter mixture.

Add a few drops of red food gel dye and stir.

Slowly add the flour mixture until combined. The flour will lighten the color, so add more food gel dye if necessary.

Mix on medium high until the dough pulls away from the bowl.

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge.

When you are ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prep baking sheets with silpats or parchment.

Roll out the dough to 3/8” thick. Use a sweater cookie cutter to cut out shapes.

Move the cookies to the prepped baking sheets and cut a small hole in the top to add the ribbon later. Bake for 10 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack.

When the cookies are cool, use a #5 tip and pipe yellow icing in the shape of Alvin’s signature “A”.

Loop ribbon through the hole to hang.
