If your kids only know Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and the rest of the gang from the 2011 movie or from commercials for Muppets Most Wanted, out in theaters March 21, then now is the perfect time to introduce them to the show that first brought the lovable Muppets to life. Check out four of the funniest clips from the show, but beware that they may lead to watching full episodes--which are readily available on YouTube.
Muppet Labs Pet Converter
Muppet Labs was a regular segment on The Muppet Show, featuring inventions by Dr. Bunsen Honeydew. His assistant, Beaker, would inevitably bear the brunt of each invention's malfunction, and in this clip Bunsen's pet converter machine works a little too well.
Harry Belafonte with the Muppets
The Muppet Show regularly featured celebrity guests, and in this clip, Harry Belafonte appears to sing "Banana Boat Song (Day O)" with the Muppets. Kids will recognize this classic song, and all ages will crack up at the constant interruptions of Fozzie Bear (including an ongoing argument about getting bananas for the set).
Introduction to Animal
This clip is a hysterical introduction to Animal. Find out just how much he loves his drums, then check out all the other great Animal clips that are out there on the Internet. Watching Animal will turn around even the worst day, promise.
The Swedish Chef
The Swedish Chef is one of the most iconic Muppet characters, and manages to be funny even when you can't understand 90 percent of what he's saying. In this clip, the chef tries to prepare a freshly laid egg, but the chicken keeps laying Ping-Pong balls. Let's just say the chef isn't too pleased with this ingredient substitution.
