News and Notes

Regardless of what you thought about Prometheus, somewhere in the back of your mind, you knew all that build-up and viral video releasing wasn't going to be for just one film. In fact, as the film arrived in theaters in June, there were rumors that a sequel was being planned. Fox Studios and director Ridley Scott are still interested in pursuing the project, though the studio has not released an official confirmation. The project remains in very early stages and scheduling conflicts could mean writer Damon Lindelof won't be able to script the film. Should Fox issue confirmation though, Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are contracted to appear in the film. Fox president of production Emma Watts said, "Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it."

As long as we're talking sequels, Universal is very interested in pursuing a sequel to Ted, although the final decision would come down to writer/director/voice of the teddy bear Seth McFarlane. He told Comic-Con fans that he would be open to making Ted 2, but no further comments have been made about a potential sequel. The film has grossed nearly $200 million domestically since its release on June 29.

Since we're on a sequels stream here,  a quick update on Snow White and the Huntsman and another film in the American Pie franchise. First up, Snow White. A second part to the movie was already being buzzed about before the film released in theaters a couple months ago. Plans are still moving forward, though with the recent Kristen Stewart scandal, director Rupert Sanders is not expected to be back as director. He'll most likely serve as an executive producer on the film. Moving on to American Pie, or more specifically, American Reunion, the film has grossed almost $250 million domestically against a $50 million budget, leading Universal to keep milking the franchise for every dollar they can get out of it. No release dates or specifics have been released yet, though the studio is strongly considering a fifth Pie film.

Like it or not there will be a third Hobbit movie. Since the announcement, we've learned that the third film may cost an additional $100 million (not including marketing), though no even that can be confirmed since there's no script. As for the title of the third film, The One Ring has found that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies have been registered as potential film names by Warner Bros.
