What is The Unbroken about?

A current blockbuster in Japan, THE UNBROKEN won awards for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Cinematography at the 33rd Japan Academy Prizes (Japan’s equivalent of the Academy Awards) earlier this year. Academy Award nominee Ken Watanabe (THE LAST SAMURI) stars as airline labor union leader, Hajime Onchi whose efforts to improve working conditions and fight bureaucracy result in a series of postings abroad. Away from Japan, his wife and his children, Onchi struggles with the isolation. After ten years, he is called back to Japan, but his homecoming is bittersweet. A tragic airplane crash results in hundreds of deaths and it is Onchi’s gruesome job to console the victims’ families and provide restitution. Japanese Academy Prize-winning director, Setsuro Wakamatsu (WHITE OUT) artfully portrays the spirit of man who will not be broken.
