Spotlight On: 'Jupiter Ascending's' Mila Kunis

Like her character in 'Jupiter Ascending,' the ascent of this Ukrainian-born actress -- from humble beginnings to international stardom -- has been spectacular. Check out some highlights from Kunis' career, now in its third(!) decade.

Mila Kunis began acting professionally at the age of nine, soon appearing in shows like ‘Baywatch’ and ‘Days of Our Lives.’ At twelve, she made her feature film debut in this infamous Hulk Hogan vehicle. Hey, we’ve all gotta start somewhere.

This HBO biopic about doomed 1970s fashion model Gia Carangi was a step up for the young Miss Kunis. Angelina Jolie won a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for her work as the title character, but Kunis also made a splash as the young Gia.

Mila Kunis became a household name thanks to this long-running sitcom, which premiered when she was only 15. Little did she know then that Ashton Kutcher, her on-screen boyfriend, would be the father of her first child in 2014.

It’s ironic that one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood would serve as the voice of poor, homely Meg -- the scapegoat of the Griffin clan -- in Seth MacFarlane’s politically incorrect animated series. But there you have it.

With both ‘That ‘70s Show’ and ‘Family Guy’ on her plate, Kunis didn’t have much room for side projects. But she still kept her movie career slowly simmering, as her role in this Kirsten Dunst comedy can attest.

Mila Kunis finally found big-screen success – as did her co-stars Jason Segal and Russell Brand – in this hit rom-com. Her work as Segal’s love interest -- a smart, sexy concierge at a Hawaiian resort -- opened the door to more high-profile roles.

Kunis broke away from comedies for a year, starring with Denzel Washington in this gritty post-apocalyptic thriller with religious undertones. Washington is unquestionably front and center here, but Kunis acquits herself well.

If ‘Sarah Marshall’ made Mila Kunis a movie star, then this ballet psychodrama established her as a serious actress. She scored a Golden Globe nomination for her work; some also feel that she only narrowly missed out on an Oscar nod. 

All those years of voicing Meg Griffin on ‘Family Guy’ paid off when Seth MacFarlane cast Kunis as the female lead, opposite her old ‘Max Payne’ cohort Mark Wahlberg, in his raunchy megahit about a man and his bear.

Kunis channels her inner Margaret Hamilton as the future Wicked Witch of the West in this ‘Wizard of Oz’ prequel from director Sam Raimi. 

Sadly, one of Robin Williams’s final films was only seen by a handful of people. But the cast alone is worth the price of admission: Besides Williams and Kunis (as his doctor), ‘Angriest Man’ also stars Peter Dinklage, Melissa Leo and James Earl Jones.
