Spotlight On: Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz sings and dances her way into theaters as Miss Hannigan in the remake of the movie-musical ‘Annie.’ Here’s a look at some other highlights from this versatile Hollywood star.

In her feature film debut, Diaz stars opposite Jim Carrey in a comedy about a simple bank clerk who transforms into a wild man with the help of a magical mask. As sultry lounge singer Tina Carlyle, Daiz’s performance can be summed up in one word: "Smmmmooookin’!"

Diaz plays Heather Davis, a former prostitute at the center of a family feud between two brothers, in Edward Burns’ dramedy about relationships gone wrong. Her performance showcases the actress’s bankable combination of smart and sexy.

This romantic comedy featured Diaz as a blushing bride who proved she could hold her own against box-office darling Julia Roberts (who hand-picked Diaz for the role). She also got to show off her singing skills when the ensemble cast did a memorable rendition of "Say a Little Prayer For You." 

Both Diaz and costar Ben Stiller found breakout success with this R-rated comedy hit from the Farrelly Brothers. Diaz has many of the film’s best laugh-out-loud moments (hair gel, anyone?), earning a Golden Globe nomination for her work. 

In a drastic turn from ‘Something About Mary,’ Diaz took on the role of Lotte Schwartz -- an off kilter pet store clerk who, along with her husband (John Cusack), enters a hidden portal that transports her into the mind of the actor John Malkovich.  

Oliver Stone recruited Diaz -- and her future 'Annie' costar, Jamie Foxx -- for his gritty film about the win-at-all-costs world of professional football. As the vindictive owner of a football team, Diaz more than held her own in some very heated scenes opposite coach Al Pacino.

Appearing alongside gal pals Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, Diaz played angel Natalie Cook in this big-screen adaptation of the ‘70s TV hit. She also reprised the character in the less-successful 2003 follow-up, ‘Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.’

The original ‘Shrek’ took home the first-ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and earned Diaz (along with co-stars Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy) a spot as one of the hardest working voices in animation. She has played Princess Fiona in four films, four movie shorts and one theme park ride.

Diaz earned her third Golden Globe nomination for playing the obsessed friends-with-benefits gal pal of Tom Cruise in Cameron Crowe's trippy adaptation of 'Abre Los Ojos.' The pair would team up again several years later, in the 2010 action film ‘Knight and Day.'

As Jenny Everdeane, Diaz plays a promiscuous criminal in this bloody period piece from director Martin Scorsese. Both Diaz and her costar Daniel Day-Lewis earned Golden Globe noms for their work, while costar Leonardo DiCaprio -- much to everyone’s surprise -- was snubbed during awards season. 

As Diaz matured personally, so too did her desire to take on more mature roles. Her turn as a mother who’ll do anything to prevent her daughter from dying of leukemia -- including having a second child just to use her kidney to save the first -- was a step in that direction.

Diaz returned to her campy comedy roots playing the titular educator set on winning the affections of a wealthy colleague (Justin Timberlake). The raunchy romp was such a hit, it spawned a short-lived TV series and a sequel currently in development. 

Reteaming with her ‘Bad Teacher’ co-star Jason Segal, Diaz bares all in this comedy about a couple who spice up their marriage by making a sex tape -- only to mistakenly post it to the web for all the world to see. Oops!
