Meet the New and Familiar Faces from ‘Money Monster’
'Money Monster’ promises to be one of the most prestigious movies of the summer. Here’s a look at its first-rate cast, from the biggest names in Hollywood to a slew of rising stars – and don’t forget its famous director.
George Clooney and Julia Roberts
Clooney and Roberts are both solid ensemble players, as evidenced by 2001’s 'Ocean’s Eleven’ (pictured) and its two sequels. Roberts also costarred in Clooney’s directorial debut, ‘Confessions of a Dangerous Mind’ (2002).
George Clooney
Although we all know Clooney as a leading man, his first Oscar was for Best Supporting Actor in the 2005 political thriller ‘Syriana.’ It didn’t come easily: Clooney severely injured his spine on set, which traumatized him physically and emotionally.
Julia Roberts
Roberts, of course, won the Oscar for Best Actress in the 2000 legal drama ‘Erin Brockovich’ (directed by ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ helmer Steven Soderbergh). It was her third nomination; her most recent was for ‘August: Osage County’ (2013).
Jack O’Connell
The third star of ‘Money Monster’ was best known for the British TV show ‘Skins.’ Then he won the role of a lifetime: that of Louis Zamperini, Olympic hero turned prisoner of war, in Angelina Jolie’s gut-wrenching biopic ‘Unbroken’ (2014).
Dominic West
This British thespian shone in the 2000 Sandra Bullock drama ’28 Days,’ but West really arrived when he was cast as Baltimore cop Jimmy McNulty in HBO’s ‘The Wire.’ You’ll also know him from the more recent TV series ‘The Affair.’
Caitriona Balfe
If West is the Big Bad of ‘Money Monster,’ then Balfe plays his enabler. This Dublin native started off as a model before turning to acting in 2010. Today she’s best known as the time-traveling Claire Randall from the series ‘Outlander.’
Giancarlo Esposito
As a New York police captain in ‘Money Monster,’ the talented Esposito tries to make us forget about his villainous turn as Gus Fring (left) in ‘Breaking Bad.’ The acting veteran originally made his name in several early Spike Lee films.
Chris Bauer
Like Dominic West, ‘The Wire’ gave this actor his breakthrough role, as longshoreman Frank Sobotka. You might also recognize him as Sheriff Andy Bellefleur on ‘True Blood’ or as Detective Tom Lange on ‘American Crime Story.’
Emily Meade
Playing Jack O’Connell’s girlfriend in ‘Money Monster’ is this young actress (right), who appeared in over a dozen indie movies before she became part of the core ensemble in the cult TV drama ‘The Leftovers.’
Jodie Foster
Last but certainly not least is the director of ‘Money Monster,’ legendary actress Jodie Foster. This is Foster’s fourth feature film as a director, after ‘Little Man Tate’ (1991), ‘Home for the Holidays’ (1995) and ‘The Beaver’ (2011).
