From Talk Soup to Nuts: A Greg Kinnear Career Retrospective
With the release of 'Heaven is For Real', the time has come to salute Greg Kinnear, an actor so personable that we easily forget how versatile he is. He's come a long way since his early TV days as 'Talk Soup''s first host.
Sabrina (1995)
In one of Kinnear's first big movie roles, he loses the love of his life to the more dashing and handsome Harrison Ford. Typical. But he doesn't let it get him down. Also typical.
Dear God (1996)
As a conman forced to become a postman, Kinnear inadvertently makes the world a better place by answering letters addressed to God Himself, further cementing his status as an angel on Earth.
As Good as It Gets (1997)
Kinnear scored an Oscar nomination as a gay painter who loses his mojo after a brutal attack. Through the power of kindness and one super cute dog, he melts Jack Nicholson's grumpy heart – and paints Helen Hunt in the nude.
You've Got Mail (1998)
Once again Greg Kinnear plays a nice guy who loses the girl to a better guy. This time it's Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, an onscreen duo he knows better than to get in the way of.
Mystery Men (1999)
Here, Greg Kinnear begins to challenge his nice guy persona by playing an ultra vain and not-so-nice superhero, Captain Amazing. Things do not end well for him. In this case, he's not as okay with it.
Nurse Betty (2000)
Here the actor plays a soap opera star who must endure the fanatical affection of a confused nurse (Renée Zellweger). The real Greg Kinnear probably deals with this sort of thing all the time.
The Gift (2000)
Uh-oh. Good guy Greg Kinnear has suddenly disappeared. In his place is - spoiler alert! - a cold-blooded killer. Somehow, scary Greg Kinnear is even more believable than the friendly version.
Auto Focus (2002)
Kinnear further stomps on his good guy image as he headlines this lurid biopic of Hogan's Heroes star Bob Crane, who is up to his neck in crazy sexual encounters and harassed by a terrifying "friend" (Willem Dafoe).
Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
Life isn't always perfect, even for Greg Kinnear. But if you have a quirky family, true hearts, and a barely functioning Volkswagen Bus, you can still find heartwarming happiness. Again, that's if you're Greg Kinnear.
Invincible (2006)
It was only a matter of time before Greg Kinnear got to play an all-American football coach. Here he makes Mark Wahlberg's dreams come true by letting him play for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Green Zone (2010)
Kinnear goes bad once again, this time as a slimy Pentagon Special Intelligence stooge determined to get America into a war in Iraq. As the film's primary villain, he comes very close to being unlikable. But not quite!
I Don't Know How She Does It (2011)
Greg Kinnear has to sit back and quietly support his wife (Sarah Jessica Parker) while she tries to juggle motherhood, a career, and marriage to Greg Kinnear. He makes it look easy.
Heaven is for Real (2014)
Kinnear's on-screen son has a near-death experience, visits Heaven, and later describes it in detail. The main thing the boy remembers is that in Heaven, all the movie theaters play Greg Kinnear movies.
