Blended Families in Film

Who doesn't love a good family film about moms, dads and kids coming together in harmony?  Of course, there's usually a ton of drama before we get to the harmony, but that's the fun part.

"Let's get together yeah, yeah, yeah. Why don't you and I combine?" Haley Mills stars as teenage twins Susan and Sharon who switch identities in an attempt to reunite their divorced parents in this Disney classic.

"Till the one day when the lady met this fellow and they knew that it was much more than a hunch that this group must somehow form a family
that's the way we all became the Brady bunch." The Brady bunch is the iconic blended family.

In the followup to Cheaper by the Dozen, the Baker family of twelve is getting even bigger and this time there's competition with another large brood.  These two families might not be blending, but watching them duke it out is pretty entertaining.

Gene Hackman plays Royal, the patriach in Wes Anderson's film about the eccentric Tenenbaum family.  What's so eccentric about them?  Richie's in love with his adopted sister Margot, Etheline leaves Royal for their long-time accountant, and the synchronized red track suits that Chas and his two sons wear.

NBC's hit series Parenthood is loosely based on the 1989 original that stars Steve Martin as Gil Buchman, a neurotic dad who is finding his way through parenthood.

Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo play widows who fall in love and marry.  Only catch?  Figuring out how to raise her ten children and his eight in harmony.

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are hysterical playing grown adults who still live at their parent's houses and have to come together as step brothers when their parents decide to marry each other. Don't miss the scene where they attempt to make bunk beds!

Forever playboy Nick falls hard for Suzanne, but gets a run for his money when they move to the burbs to raise her two kids.

In this tear jerker, Susan Sarandon plays a terminally ill mom who helps her ex's new love (Julia Roberts) learn the ropes of motherhood.

This might not be considered a typical "blended" family, but the Farrelly brothers' comedy about conjoined twins Walt and Bob Tenor's journey from Martha's Vineyard to LA, highlights the importance of family and unique relationships.

Successful, single girl on-the-town Helen swaps one life for another when her sister dies and leaves her three children in her care.

Will Ferrell plays Buddy, an unlikely  and endearing elf  from the North Pole, who's on a mission to find his dad in New York City and eat plenty of sugar along the way.

Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore reunite in this family comedy about two people (with their respective families) who are stuck together at a resort after a bad date.
