2015 Fall Movie Guide: A Preview of Fall Movies You Must See
This fall’s bumper crop of movies promises thrills, chills, mobsters, witch hunters, adventure seekers, sex addicts and old guys hiking… and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Read on for our complete roundup of what’s coming from September through November.
The Transporter Refueled (Sept. 4)
Begging the all-important question if the franchise can go on without Jason Statham, this one stars Ed Skrein (season three of ‘Game of Thrones’) in the titular role.
The Perfect Guy (Sept. 11)
…But is he? When Washington, D.C. lobbyist Leah (Sanaa Lathan) breaks up with her noncommittal boyfriend, Carter Duncan (Michael Ealy) steps in with all the right moves.
The Visit (Sept. 11)
Visits to Grandma and Grandpa’s are always fun – aren’t they? Maybe not so much, in M. Night Shyamalan’s self-financed, found-footage horror comedy about two kids whose stay at their grandparents' goes really, really wrong.
Sleeping with Other People (Sept. 11)
Alison Brie and Jason Sudeikis once lost their virginity to each other. Now they run into each other at -- what else? A sex addiction recovery meeting! Hilarity and raunch ensue. Produced by Adam McKay and Will Ferrell and written by ‘Bachelorette’ scribe Leslye Headland.
Pawn Sacrifice (Sept. 16)
The latest biopic about troubled chess genius Bobby Fischer has Tobey Maguire in the role and culminates with the 1972 “World War 3 on a chessboard” match against Russian nemesis Boris Spassky (Liev Schreiber). It was the match that would get Fischer federally indicted.
Black Mass (Sept. 18)
Johnny Depp is known for transforming into many things – comical pirate, scissor-handed emo guy – but scary? He looks pretty darn terrifying as ruthless gangster-turned-informant Whitey Bulger, known for things like casually driving away after killing the wrong target in broad daylight.
Captive (Sept. 18)
You may remember the true story of a young mother taken hostage by a escapee who’d recently killed people at a courthouse. She saved the situation from going south by reading the devotional book ‘The Purpose Driven Life’ to him. Ten years later comes the movie starring Kate Mara and David Oyelowo in the key roles.
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (Sept. 18)
Having escaped the maze, the Gladers search for more information about the mysterious organization WCKD -- at the same time they must navigate the bleak, dangerous region known as the Scorch.
Everest (Sept. 18)
If you read ‘Into Thin Air,’ you’re familiar with Jon Krakauer’s account of the horrific consequences of a rogue snowstorm on a climbing expedition in 1996. This film will provide the dramatic visuals, with an all-star cast including Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley, Josh Brolin and many other famous faces.
Sicario (Sept. 18)
Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin star in this action drama about the war on drugs at the U.S-Mexico border. Some key players may not be what (or who) they seem. We do know, however, that Del Toro is the “sicario” ("hit man" in Spanish) of the title.
A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Story (Sept. 25)
After discovering that she was labeled online as “The World’s Ugliest Woman,” rather than retreat and succumb to the bullies she has faced her entire life, Lizzie Velasquez decided to fight back in this powerful anti-bullying documentary that discusses the rare syndrome she was born with and the torment she has faced since she was a child.
The Green Inferno (Sept. 25)
Eli Roth harks back to Italian cannibal movies of the ‘70s and ‘80s with this gory throwback, which has some college-age environmentalists traveling to the Amazon to protest deforestation. Surviving their plane’s crash in the jungle may not have been a good thing….
Hotel Transylvania 2 (Sept. 25)
While grandpa Drac puts his new half-vampire, half-human grandson Dennis into a “monster training” program, little does anyone know great-grandpa Vlad is on the way for a visit – and about to be none to happy about all the humans running around Hotel T.
The Intern (Sept. 25)
What is it about Oscar winners/nominees and movies about magazines? Here, Robert De Niro finds himself bored of retirement and off to intern for a high-fashion glossy run by Anne Hathaway in this comedy from Nancy Meyers.
99 Homes
The late-00s credit collapse is the basis of several upcoming movies, not the least of which is this one that stars Andrew Garfield as a family man who loses his house -- and then joins the realtor (Michael Shannon) who evicted him.
The Walk (Sept. 30)
Scared of heights? Don’t look down as high-wire walker Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) attempts to navigate a tightrope between the Twin Towers. Based on the real event in 1974, it also stars Ben Kingsley as Petit’s mentor. Directed by Robert Zemeckis.
The Martian (Oct. 2)

Freeheld (Oct. 2)
Based on real-life events, ‘Freeheld’ follows the story of a New Jersey police lieutenant (Julianne Moore) who fights to secure pension benefits for her domestic partner (Ellen Page) after she’s diagnosed with terminal cancer.

A colorful and imaginative origin story for Peter Pan that follows him as a small boy (played by newcomer Levi Miller) on his first trip to the magical Neverland, where he’ll team up with a young Hook to defeat the nefarious Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman).
Steve Jobs (Oct. 9)
The newest big-screen Steve Jobs biopic is already buzzing with awards potential, as it follows the late Apple CEO (Michael Fassbender) in his sometimes heartbreaking quest to revolutionize technology and change the world.

Goosebumps (Oct. 16)

Jem and the Holograms (Oct. 23)
Based on the funky ‘80s animated series, ‘Jem and the Holograms’ follows a small-town girl’s journey from an unknown music artist to a global superstar. Jon M. Chu, of the ‘Step Up’ series, directs.
Suffragette (Oct. 23)
