As of today, Dumb and Dumber To -- a sequel to an absurd, 20-year-old comedy -- has been in theaters for less than a week and is already sitting on a box office haul of over $55 million. So when a simple, long-overdue sequel hits big, you can bet that Hollywood is paying attention. Enter Zoolander 2.
The first Zoolander isn't quite as old as Dumb and Dumber, nor did it ever gain the same kind of household recognition, but it's had a very healthy life on DVD, cable and Netflix since it came out in 2001. The comedy, about dumb male models thwarting a plot to kill a politician, has more than a few fans and Ben Stiller is hoping they'll turn out for a sequel. He's not directing this time (that job goes to actor-writer Justin Theroux), but he's producing and will star in the movie.
We don't have a hint of a plot or release date yet, but we do know that Penélope Cruz has signed on to star alongside Stiller, which is great news because Cruz is a very funny lady who doesn't do enough comedies. And Deadline reports there is talk of Will Ferrell and Owen Wilson returning as well, so you can probably count on this being a total reunion.
