We’re just about a quarter way through the year, which means we should probably take some time to look back and chat about which films have been our favorites so far. One way to describe the first quarter worth of films in 2009 would be ‘fun’. Obvious frontrunner Watchmen was a smidge below a three-hour epic; it felt original and fresh, even though it was based on one of the more beloved graphic novels of all time. Definitely my choice for best of 2009, but there’s a lot more to consider.

What about Liam Neeson’s intense, action-packed Taken, which seems to be a film that took everyone by surprise. Case in point: It’s already grossed over $218 million worldwide! The stop-motion hit Coraline pleased a whole ton of people, primarily because it’s based on a story from the outstanding Neil Gaiman. Star-studded adult fare like Duplicity and State of Play both won lots of praise, and you can’t forget those two stand-out comedies -- I Love You, Man and Observe and Report. In the horror department, may I submit The Uninvited for your consideration as a flick that slowly creeps up on your good side while doling out the right amount of scares.

The movies of 2009 have been all over the board so far, with solid films arriving from every genre. But which ones were your favorites? And at the end of the year, do you still think you’ll have as much love for these films, or is something better guaranteed to come along?
