The Amazing Spider-Man swung into theaters overnight, notching up $7.5 million in ticket sales. The film has also added more than $50 million from international markets. The film accounts for 71% of our ticket sales today and with the Independence Day holiday tomorrow, the film should looks like it's on pace for a $100 million six-day total.
It's only competition are Katy Perry's 3D concert doc, opening Thursday and Oliver Stone's Savages, releasing Friday. For fanboys looking for something to watch, Spidey could be just the ticket.
Normally, we ask those who of you who watched a particular movie what you thought about the film in general, but with the spotlight shining on Andrew Garfield, we decided to add an additional poll for you to weigh in on his performance as Spidey, now that you've seen the film.
Granted there's going to be that group of people who will forever associate the role to Tobey Maguire, but our polling showed 14% of viewers hadn't seen the previous Spider-Man films and 81% said new actors in familiar roles made them more excited to see the film.
Additionally, 76% said the new villain, Rhys Ifans' The Lizard, piqued their interest in the film. The film is also garnering solid critical reviews (it's certified fresh on RottenTomatoes) with most people saying that despite revisiting familiar plot points from 2002's Spider-Man, the cast is excellent and the direction is well-done.
The Amazing Spider-Man is currently playing in 3D, IMAX, IMAX 3D and regular 2D nationwide. OK, enough reading. Vote!
