Merry December everyone! We took a week off after the Thanksgiving rush because there weren’t any new releases in theaters last weekend, but now we’re back and ready to dive into a loaded December, packed full of blockbusters, awards contenders, two Steven Spielberg movies and a partridge in a pear tree. Things don’t get too heated until next week and the week after, but this week does bring us two new releases that may or may not inject some much-needed holiday spirit straight into your soul. Let’s take a look …

What’s The Scoop: Jonah Hill stars in this somewhat filthy, foul-mouthed comedy about a slacker in need of money who takes on a babysitting gig that goes terrible awry. Think of it as Adventures in Babysitting, but with lots of cursing and sexual innuendo.

Why It Might Win the Weekend: After the rush of kid flicks over the Thanksgiving holiday, we can imagine your mind might be in the mood to get a little dirty. If that’s the case, this is the movie for you.

What’s the Scoop: All your favorite famous celebs band together to tell a bunch of little harmless stories set around the New Year’s Eve holiday.

Why It Might Win the Weekend: Because it stars (deep breath) Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Robert DeNiro, Halle Berry, Alyssa Milano, Jessica Biel, Seth Myers, Common, Sarah Paulson, Carla Gugino, Ashton Kutcher, James Belushi, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Sarah Jessica Parker, and … I’m gonna stop there. You get it.

My Prediction: Will New Year’s Eve put a stop to the Breaking Dawn, Part 1 box office massacre? That’s the big question this weekend, and I’m gonna say yes. New Year’s Eve should’ve packed in enough celebrities to get in at least one win at the weekend box office.

My Pick of the Week: In limited release we have some awards-caliber flicks like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, We Need to Talk About Kevin and the latest from Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody, Young Adult. Either one of those will be worth your time if they’re playing in your neck of the woods.

Now it’s your turn to let us know which film you think will win the box office this weekend …
