Could 2015 be a very Jedi Christmas?
According to Badass Digest, Disney has a date circled on its calendar right now and it looks like the latest Star Wars movie will be avoiding a very crowded summer movie season and opting instead for the holiday crowd.
The site states that "Disney and Lucasfilm have December circled on their calendars, with a mid-month release being most likely."
While an end-of-year release would take the movie out of the crowded summer lineup that includes Avengers: Age of Ultron, Terminator, Independence Day 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean 5, there's no guarantee that director J.J. Abrams will have the movie done by then. Any delays could potentially push the movie to a Christmas release or even out of 2015 altogether. The latter seems like a last resort as Disney made it a point at D23 to state that the film would be in theaters in 2015.
Up until now, all the other Star Wars movies have been released in May. Disney and Marvel already have Avengers: Age of Ultron locked in for an early May release. The studio also has the Finding Nemo sequel, Finding Dory slated for Thanksgiving 2015 with Pirates 5 and Ant-Man sandwiched in between in July and early November, respectively.
November 2015 is particularly loaded with the next James Bond movie, the final Hunger Games movie and a Peanuts movie joining Ant-Man and Finding Dory. Could movie fans suffer from tentpole blockbuster fatigue once December swings around?
When do you think Star Wars: Episode VII should arrive in theaters? Spring 2015, August (which currently has no blockbusters) or Christmas 2015? Or should it get bumped to 2016?
