Looks like Kevin James is venturing outside the realm of crummy Adam Sandler movies and even crummier Mall Cop characters. According to Deadline Hollywood, James will partner up with Vince Vaughn on a comedy that's to be directed by Ron Howard. Yes, the Ron Howard who just directed The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons. In fact, that's the best part of this news!

Vince Vaughn and Kevin James

I've been rallying behind Howard to direct another comedy for some time now; truth be told, I'm a big fan of his '80s films like Night Shift, Splash and Gung Ho, and think the director is long overdue for a solid, funny flick. In this newly announced film, which is untitled at the moment, Vaughn and James will play best friends and business partners who find themselves in a pickle when Vaughn spots his buddy's wife getting cozy with another man. Does he tell? Does he keep it a secret to protect his friend? We don't know, but we're damn sure hilarity will ensue.

I like the pairing of Vaughn and James. Both men know how to play shlubby everymen, and I could see Howard opting against the "stupid humor" and giving us a solid, down-to-earth comedy featuring characters we can actually relate to and situations we've actually been in.

Your thoughts on the James/Vaughn pairing? Together, do you think they can deliver a really funny film?
