Disney is planning to bring '90s classic Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers to the big screen, which will see the mischievous animated chipmunks featured alongside live actors a la The Smurfs and Alvin and the Chipmunks

And though my son is a fan of the classic Chip 'n' Dale cartoons, I grew up loving Rescue Rangers, which got me thinking about all the other great cartoons that came out of the decade of my childhood.

Here's what could happen if other '90s animations ever make it to the silver screen:

Captain Planet

The Plot: Captain Planet and the Planeteers have been living under the radar since their heyday in the '90s; now they help companies produce more environmentally conscious products (where do you think those water bottles that use less plastic came from?). During a promotional appearance for a new line of eco-friendly toys, the Captain is dismayed to see most of the kids in attendance distracted by cell phones and tablets. Going off script, he asks the kids the last time they played outside or saw a wild animal. Horrified by the responses, he enlists the Planeteers to help him take the kids on a nature adventure. The trip gets cut short after many of the parents report their children missing to the police, but the kids still return home with a newfound appreciation for the planet.

The World of David the Gnome

The Plot: (SPOILER ALERT) Since David and his wife became trees at the end of the original series (apparently gnomes don't die, they just turn into timber), David's son, Harold, has continued his father's work as a doctor. Learning from his father's use of natural remedies, he opens the first alternative medicine clinic. Becoming hugely successful, Harold has to upgrade from his tree-based clinic to a three-story building in the middle of a city. He loses touch with all his gnome and animal friends, but he doesn't have to deal with the trolls anymore and he has central heating and air conditioning, so ultimately he wins.

Denver, the Last Dinosaur

The Plot: Years after hanging out with Wally and the gang, sightings of Denver hit the Internet and go viral, with his "disguise" of wearing normal clothes no longer enough to hide his true identity. The government eventually gets wind of Denver's existence and insists on having him turned over to scientists for testing. He’s then placed in a secure habitat. Wally and his friends try to keep him out of the public eye, but everyone in town is armed with their camera phones, eager to document a glimpse of the last dinosaur. With Wally and his friends rapidly approaching their college graduations and Denver growing unhappy in captivity, Denver says good-bye to his friends and uses a piece of his egg to travel back in time to spend the rest of his life with other dinosaurs.
