Annie, the little orphan girl with signature curly red locks, first appeared on the Broadway stage in 1977. The musical was a hit. Audiences were charmed and inspired by the story of the ragamuffin and her joy for life under the worst of circumstances. Annie was adapted for the big screen in 1982, opening to mixed reviews — but that didn’t stop it from becoming a childhood favorite.

Fast-forward to 2014, when the Jay-Z- and Will Smith-produced version of the film will arrive in theaters. Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) takes the title role, changing the Annie template for a whole new generation. Here’s the final trailer for the movie coming out on December 19, just in time for Christmas.

Wallis’ Annie looks just as exuberant as she ever has, with Cameron Diaz turning up the nasty as the orphan's cruel foster mother Miss Hannigan. Jamie Foxx’s Will Stacks is the new Daddy Warbucks, who saves Annie from a potentially disastrous accident. He’s a hardball politician, but she warms his heart. This version of the trailer seems to show more of the relationship between Foxx and Wallis’ characters — and in that way reminds us why we love this story so much. "Chandelier' singer Sia is featured on the soundtrack, but the famous “Tomorrow” is voiced by Wallis herself.
