'Rise of the Planet of the Apes'Itching to see a little bit of the first footage from Rise of the Planet of the Apes? Well now is your chance, because 20th Century Fox is debuting a nifty behind-the-scenes look at the film today at 2:30PM PDT. At the bottom of this post we’ve embedded a livestream, so all you’ve gotta do is sit back and watch the magic unfold.

According to the note we just received, "WETA Digital, the industry leading VFX team behind films like Avatar and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, will host a livestream event on the official Facebook fan page for Avatar (http://www.facebook.com/officialavatarmovie), bringing fans to their headquarters in Wellington, New Zealand for an exclusive look at their work on RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Joined by director Rupert Wyatt, WETA will discuss the technology developed for the film, bringing the characters to life in the cautionary tale that blends science fiction and science fact."

The prequel, which is due out in theaters on August 5th, stars James Franco and is the first Planet of the Apes film to take place in contemporary times. If you’re only vaguely familiar with the franchise, then most likely you know the original 1968 version of Planet of the Apes the best (as well as its 2001 remake directed by Tim Burton). This new film will take place before that – prior to the Apes rising up to become the dominant species – and it will show us how those events first came to be.

Check out the livestream below, and let us know what you think.
