Opening today, A Thousand and One stars Teyana Taylor as Inez, a mother who deeply loves her son Terry, who she's raising in New York City during tumultuous times. The searing drama movingly captures their many challenges, showing how they triumph together over the hardships they faced from childhood into his teenage years.

In our exclusive clip, Inez (Teyana Taylor) asks Terry (Josiah Cross), now 17 years of age, about a girl she saw with him earlier. Pressing him a bit for answers, she is visibly distressed by his casual reference to preferring "Spanish girls," prompting her to make her feelings plainly known to him.

A Thousand and One, written and directed by A.V. Rockwell, comes to theaters on the heels of winning the Grand Jury prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
