It could be said that Andy and Larry Wachowski haven’t made anything all too memorable since The Matrix trilogy, but even so it’s hard not to get excited about whatever project(s) they’re working on next. While they still try to find funding for the risky CN9 – about two male soldiers during the Iraqi war who fall in love and then plot to assassinate George W. Bush – it looks like they’ll first return to a more commercial arena with a modern-day Robin Hood story called Hood.

The Wachowskis wrote and will direct Hood, which may star Will Smith, as he’s one of the actors they’ve reached out to. No word on specific story, but we should expect them to take a bold visual approach (a la The Matrix) since that’s what they’re known for. Should also be interesting to see if they film it in 3D, since this would be the first Wachowski movie to utilize the format, and because the duo seem perfect for the third dimension. I’d still love to see those Matrix films converted to 3D – some scenes would really pop.
What do you think about Will Smith as a modern-day Robin Hood? Would it work, or did Universal’s recent Robin Hood movie starring Russell Crowe leave a sour taste in our mouths for the character?
