Rosemary's Baby

Rosemary's Baby

Coming this summer on NBC TV, a new miniseries version of Ira Levin's best-selling novel Rosemary's Baby stars Zoe Saldana in the role that Mia Farrow made famous in Roman Polanski's 1968 film. The first, super-brief teaser has been released, establishing that the setting is Paris and that a crying baby needs attention. A new poster also helps sell the mood and European locale. [NBC]

Amityville

The Amityville Horror

A new installment in a series of 11 films revolving around a supposedly spirit-possessed house in Long Island, New York, has found a director and two stars. Jennifer Jason Leigh will play a mother with three children who moves into the house; Bella Thorne, known for her Disney Channel work, will likely play one of those children. Franck Khalfoun, who directed the recent remake of Maniac, will helm the project, which is scheduled for release on January 2, 2015. The best-known film in the series is probably the first, 1979's The Amityville Horror with James Brolin and Margot Kidder, remade in 2005 with Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George. The Grudge

The Grudge

Speaking of horror-movie franchises getting new installments, The Grudge series will be relaunched. Based on the 2002 Japanese-language original -- which itself was based on two TV movies and spawned multiple sequels -- the 2004 remake starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as a nurse in Tokyo who must deal with an ancient curse that causes incontrollable rage before killing its victims. The low-budget film's huge financial success prompted two sequels, which followed a different storyline than the Japanese series. Jeff Buhler (Midnight Meat Train) will write a new screenplay for the reboot. Sam Raimi is among the producers. [Deadline]
