Following the sudden death of pop icon Whitney Houston, the release date for Sparkle was moved up to August 17. The film stars Houston as the mother of three sisters who form a successful singing group who ultimately have to end up dealing with the fallout of fame and drugs. Former American Idol winner Jordin Sparks plays the title role with Derek Luke, Mike Epps and Cee-Lo in supporting roles.

The Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards took place over the weekend and studios took the opportunity to promote upcoming blockbusters including Men in Black III and Snow White and the Huntsman. Kids Choice favorite Katy Perry was also front and center, not only winning an award for her voice role in The Smurfs, but showcasing a teaser trailer for her Part of Me concert documentary due out this summer.
