At a recent Screen Actors Guild Foundation golf event, actor Tom Welling talked about the possibility of a Smallville movie. The actor said that early in the series, producers has discussed doing a movie to transition the characters from high school to college. “We played with the idea and what we found was there wasn’t time,” Welling said.

The series finale of Smallville, which told the story of Superman before he became Superman, aired about a month ago. Welling said that if he were offered the opportunity to play Clark Kent in a Smallville movie, he wouldn’t turn down the gig.
Earlier this year, co-star Erica Durance had said that she was open to playing Lois Lane again, but it would have to be with her Smallville family. “I would be open to all sorts of discussions about opportunities to revisit her, but to me, where my mind is right now, it would have to be with Tom Welling. It would have to be with Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor). It would have to be this Lois, that I know,” Durance said.
A Superman reboot directed by Zack Snyder is due in theaters next summer and before Henry Cavill was cast to play the role of the Man of Steel, there was significant fan support for Welling to make the jump into the feature film role.
