With the first installment of the two-part Hunger Games finale arriving in theaters on November 21, Lionsgate has dropped news that one of Hollywood's biggest franchises isn't going away just yet. Beginning in the summer of 2016, a stage production of The Hunger Games will debut in a new theater next to Wembley Stadium in London.
This won't just be your typical show, either. The new venue is being touted as a "brand-new purpose-built theater," and that the show itself will be "innovative and immersive," leading us to believe the stage itself may be designed in such a way that the audience feels like they're literally part of the action.
That's what Broadway producer Robin de Levita is known for. He's heading up the Hunger Games production after successfully launching two shows that also utilized unique, immersive environments, like rotating stages and life-size stage sets. Here's rehearsal footage for his Soldier of Orange, a Dutch musical that uses a really cool rotating stage to tell its story.
No word on who will make up the cast just yet, though we expect them to be different from the film -- meaning an all-new Katniss, Peeta, Gale and so on. If successful in London, we're pretty sure Lionsgate will bring it to Broadway and then on tour, so get ready for lots more Hunger Games action once the film franchise says its final good-byes in November of 2015.
