Iron Man, Captain Kirk and Superman may be behind us, but that only brings us days closer to Thor, Katniss Everdeen and "food-imals."

That's right, the fall movie season is upon us, bringing with it the usual mix of big-budget blockbusters and award-season contenders. Many of those Oscar hopefuls will be screening at the Toronto Film Festival and we'll have a preview for that next Tuesday.

Until then, let's take a look at 10 of the most anticipated movies arriving in theaters over the next few months.

Gravity

Speaking of Oscar-nominated directors, Alfonso Cuaron teams with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney for this suspenseful sci-fi tale about a medical engineer and an astronaut who work together to survive after an accident leaves them drifting through space. It's still early days, but Bullock feels like a lock for an Oscar nomination as does Cuaron, who could notch his fourth career Oscar nomination.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2

Literally picking up minutes from where the first film left off, Cloudy 2 is poised to be a huge fall-season hit, especially given the significant lack of family movies over this three-month stretch. Bill Hader and Anna Faris are back for the sequel which introduces us to a wide range of animal-food hybrids known as "food-imals." Will Flint Lockwood and his friends be able to save the day? Get ready to set sail for a pun-filled, family comedy.

Insidious: Chapter 2

James Wan is on quite a roll. This summer, he had a smash hit with The Conjuring and while he's currently piecing together Fast and Furious 7, he'll bring another sequel (also starring Patrick Wilson, no less) to theaters this fall. Much as we're lacking in family movies, we're also light on horror movies this year and the breakout success of both the first Insidious movie and The Conjuring could propel this sequel to box office success. The film reunites us with the Lambert family as they try to uncover the mysterious childhood secrets that has left them connected with the spirit world. Cue the creepy extended shots and watch your back.

Thor: The Dark World

The second film in Marvel's Phase Two roster of movies reunites us with the Almighty God of Thunder, Thor. Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor helms this project, which sees Natalie Portman's Jane Foster being targeted by baddies from Svartalfheim. Thor, along with his allies and his devious brother Loki team up to protect her at all costs. Who will survive and how will this set up Thor for Avengers: Age of Ultron?

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The worldwide phenomenon continues with this second installment that sees Katniss and Peeta being targeted by the Capitol following their victory in the 74th Hunger Games. Seen as a symbol of rebellion across the districts of Panem, they are thrust into the Quarter Quell, a competition featuring previous Games winners where new allies and enemies are made. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Stanely Tucci and Donald Sutherland all return with Jena Malone, Alan Ritcherson and Sam Claflin joining the megapopular franchise.
