Apparently, today is Surprise Sequel-Casting-News Day and no one told us. First Jude Law was cast as Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts sequel and now comes news that Josh Brolin is set to play Cable in Deadpool 2, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
Twentieth Century Fox and director David Leitch (Atomic Blonde) have been on the hunt for an actor to play the time-traveling mutant (he's Cyclops' son from the future) for months and months now. Speculation about whom would land the role ran rampant throughout the search, and the erratic list of contenders included Pierce Brosnan, Michael Shannon, David Harbour and even Brad Pitt. It's worth noting, though, that Brolin's name was never really in that rumor mill. But his casting is official now with a deal that will span four movies.
That means Brolin, who once played Jonah Hex for DC Comics, will soon be both Thanos on the Disney side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Cable on the Fox side. Thankfully there shouldn't be much confusion for audiences, though, since Thanos is big, purple and a CGI creation, while we imagine Cable will end up looking far more human.
Deadpool 2 will hit theaters in 2018. Ryan Reynolds will be returning, and he'll be joined by Brolin and Zazie Beetz as Domino.
