Now that Marc Webb has been securely confirmed to return as the director of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the attention is moving forward to casting for the film. Today brings a couple of big reveals, courtesy of Variety.

First up, Shailene Woodley, who broke out in last year's The Descendants, is currently the "leading choice" to play Mary Jane Watson opposite returning actors Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacey. Does this mean Stacey dies in this sequel?

Stone has talked previously that her character's days are numbered and that there's a good chance The Amazing Spider-Man 2 could signal her last appearance in the franchise.

Meanwhile, no superhero movie is complete without a villain and one currently under consideration is Electro. Electro gains the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning. Variety claims that he may have been the shadowy figure featured in the post-credit scene at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man.

The Amazing Spider-Man has gone grossed $751 million worldwide and the sequel is set to swing into theaters on May 2, 2014.

Do you like Woodley for the Mary Jane Watson role? Thoughts on Electro as one of the villains in Spidey 2?
