The first trailer for Toy Story 3 is set to hit screens in front of a special 3D double billing of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 on October 3rd (remember Disney is re-releasing both of those films in 3D before the third installment hits), but folks at the Digital Cinema Summit had a chance to taste part three before anyone else when Disney decided to screen a very brief teaser during the conference, according to Variety.
The teaser itself showed Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) supervising the other Toy Story characters while they improvised a sign for the film, only to watch Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Tim Allen) come along and upstage them with a new high-tech version – all of which sounds like a play on Pixar’s current transition to shiny 3D. Chances are we’ll have a chance to check out the same tiny teaser sometime soon, and then the larger trailer will drop on October 3rd.
Are you excited for another Toy Story? Will you head to the theater in October to check out the first two Toy Story movies in 3D?
Michael Bay’s Next Film: Kinda Like 'Pulp Fiction'?
Michael Bay has made a name for himself directing films with giant budgets, lots of explosions and fantastical chase scenes, like Transformers, Armageddon, The Rock and the upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – but will the guy ever put his name on something a tad…smaller?
Word has it Bay is looking to churn out a smaller flick while he takes a break between Transformers sequels (a third installment will likely hit theaters in 2012), and the film he’s eying is one Bay has been interested in for many years now. The current title is Pain & Gain, and it’s based on a 1999 Miami New Times article about two moronic, steroid-abusing bodybuilders who find themselves involved in a crazy kidnapping plot and extortion ring. Folks describe it as "a mixture of Fargo and Pulp Fiction" or "Point Break with bodybuilders."
Honestly it sounds like it may be a bit too "smart" for Michael Bay, but I’d definitely be interested to see if he can handle a film that relies more on darkly comedic human interaction versus "Holy cow – that robot fight in mid air was totally awesome!" [via Slashfilm]
Lions, Tigers and Bears Hit the Big Screen. Oh My!
We talked a bit about Toy Story earlier in this post, and here comes a film adaptation that sorta feels like a cross between Monster’s Inc. and Toy Story. Based on the four-issue comic created by Mike Bullock, Lions, Tigers and Bears has nothing to do with The Wizard of Oz; instead, it follows two young kids named Joey and Courtney who discover that their stuffed animals magically come to life during the night to protect them from "The Beasties," a gang of monsters who kidnap children and devour them. Freaky!
Transformers and G.I. Joe producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura (with help from Paramount Pictures) picked up the film rights along with a script from Joey Aucoin, and they plan to go the live-action route with the story, unlike the previously-mentioned Pixar tales. Not sure why they’d do that with a property full of stuffed animals and monsters (CGI or motion capture seems more realistic), though other kid-oriented films like Where the Wild Things Are look to be finding success in the live-action format, and so it may just work.
What do you think? Are you familiar with Lions, Tigers and Bears? Would it make a good live-action film?
