Cinematic universes are all the rage these days -- and while it may have taken decades for a new Ghostbusters to get off the ground, Sony isn't wasting any time in expanding their next big franchise bet into its own universe. Paul Feig's all-female Ghostbusters movie hasn't even begun filming yet and already the studio is developing a counterpart that will star male Ghostbusters. And who do they want in it? None other than Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt, naturally.
Sony has already hired Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) to write the script for the movie; Tatum will produce and hopefully star. And speaking of hopes, Sony wants Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo -- who just signed a first-look deal with the studio -- to direct the project. If everything stays on track, Feig's Ghostbusters will shoot this summer for a release in the summer of 2016, just as the male Ghostbusters goes in front of cameras for a release the following summer.

According to additional info dug up by Badass Digest, the ultimate plan right now is to churn out four Ghostbusters movies, with the casts of both Feig's movie and the Russos' movie joining forces in a third installment, Avengers-style. As for that fourth movie, sources say it may be a prequel that takes place before the other movies... and we're speculating here, but wouldn't it be fun if that was tied to the original franchise in some way, bringing it all full circle?
Original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman and star Dan Aykroyd are being tasked with heading up a production company, Ghost Corps, that will oversee all of these movies, plus other potential avenues for the Ghostbusters brand, like TV shows. So who's excited for lots more ghost-busting in their big- and small-screen future?
