Welcome back to our weekly poll in which myself–along with all you trusty Fandango fans–throw on our prediction hats (mine’s purple with multi-color feathers and a flashlight–don’t make fun) and vote on which new (or old) release we think will come in number one at the box office this weekend. Here are the players this week:
Fighting
What’s the Scoop: Channing Tatum stars as a street-tough who’s mentored by Terrence Howard and taught how to make some cash by using his fists in a series of underground street fights.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: It stars a hot up-and-coming actor (great for females), and it’s about guys beating each other up (great for guys). Don’t know about you, but I spot the perfect recipe for mucho box office bucks.
Obsessed
What’s the Scoop: This year’s Fatal Attraction-like thriller tells of a well-to-do married businessman (Idris Elba) whose too-close-for-comfort encounter with a sexy co-worker (Ali Larter) leads to said co-worker causing all sorts of trouble for the man, his wife (Beyonce Knowles) and family.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Ah, folks love these wacky relationship thrillers because it makes them feel better about their own ridiculously dysfunctional relationships. Plus there’s the Beyonce factor, which definitely helps.
The Soloist
What’s the Scoop: This Oscar-ish, feel-good flick stars Robert Downey Jr. as an LA Times columnist who befriends a homeless schizophrenic musical prodigy on the streets of Los Angeles.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Robert Downey Jr. is the new "It" actor, and Jamie Foxx won an Academy Award for playing a blind musician–what’s not to say he can’t do the same thing again?
Right now Obsessed seems to be leading the pack in advanced ticket purchases on Fandango, with 42% -- but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will win the weekend. Now it’s time for you to chime in with a vote for the movie you think has the best chance of coming out on top. Sound off below...
