With the fall movie season in full swing, Oscar contenders are starting to hit theaters. As September drew to a close, we got a look at early contenders including Moneyball, Drive and Warrior with Take Shelter and 50/50 opening up this weekend to very positive reviews.

A trio of awards contenders will be released in October – The Ides of March, George Clooney’s political drama co-starring Ryan Gosling; festival and critics favorite Martha Marcy May Marlene which boasts an Oscar-worthy performance from Elizabeth Olsen and legendary director Pedro Almodovar’s latest, The Skin I Live In starring Antonio Banderas.

But just because it’s fall doesn’t mean there aren’t any blockbusters. Hugh Jackman stars in the robot boxing movie Real Steel while the latest installment of the Paranormal Activity franchise looks to scare up more money. We also get a couple of action thrillers in The Three Musketeers starring Orlando Bloom and In Time starring Justin Timberlake.

A couple of 80’s remakes also come to theaters with Footloose and The Thing opening Oct. 14th opposite The Big Year starring Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson.

Johnny Depp will also be back in theaters in The Rum Diary which opens Oct. 28th against the Shakespeare-was-a-fraud period drama Anonymous and Rowan Atkinson, best known for playing Mr. Bean, in Johnny English Reborn.

Looking back, September’s most anticipated movie was Abduction with 18% of the vote, with horror-comedy Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (which opens limited this weekend) as the second with 17%. Contagion and Lion King 3D tied for third with 9%.

This month, we’ve split the movies up between the wide releases and the most buzzed about limited releases. Vote for you most anticipated movie in each poll and feel free to expand on your thoughts in the comment section!
